For actress Shweta Tiwari, who got married when she was 19 years old and became a mother at 21, life was always about the unexpected. “I hail from UP and the mindset there was that marriage came first, no matter what. I was a young mother, but I don’t regret it,” says Shweta.
Did her daughter bear the brunt when Shweta got estranged from her husband Raja Chowdhary? “My daughter is far more mature than her years. She understands everything and yet there have been no complains from her. She has learnt to be on her own. Even while my husband and I were together, she used to be home with my mother and always displayed a patience that was endearing and unusual,” says Shweta, who makes it a point to take her daughter out with her on assignments if they happen to be out of Mumbai. On her own part, Shweta says she has managed very well. “Unfortunately, my husband made things very public. I didn’t speak to the media because I believed what happened between us was very personal. It goes on to show that celebrities don’t have picture perfect lives,” reveals Shweta. Is she looking forward to breaking out of the ‘Prerna’ mould, her character in Kasautii Zindagii Kay that has got her immense fame? “Prerna made me a household name. I am grateful for that. But I am constantly trying to do different things. I anchor a show on radio, apart from doing Bhojpuri movies and reality television. Now I am promoting another reality game show that takes me to different cities across India. My daughter travels with me and this way, the 10 days of the month that I don’t have to give to Balaji, I explore other avenues,” reasons Shweta. Shweta says that she has been fortunate enough that she didn’t “have to don the whitener or wear ungainly clothes” as her serial went through a generation leap. “There are several more characters in the show now, which leaves me with more time on hand. I had opted for a reality dance show so that the audience could connect to me and they could have a chance to know the person behind a popular face,” says Shweta. And now, says Shweta, life is looking good. “In spite of everything, I am at peace with myself. I have dealt with everything: my marriage going awry, ungainly rumours of my affairs but I have emerged a winner.” Life, as they say, is all about rising to the challenges. What say, Shweta?
